Michelle Jacques

Michelle Jacques is the Artistic Director/founder of the CHELLE! and Friends New Orleans big band and CHELLE’S JUKE JOINT Acappella Quintet. Michelle is the Vice President of the Governor’s Board of The Recording Academy, San Francisco chapter, formally a member of the board of directors for the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and well known and in demand Bay Area jazz vocalist. Michelle performed educational programs for the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures in Music, Cazadero Performing Arts Family Camp, education programs/workshops at Stern Grove, Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco, CMEA Bay Section Conference Clinician, conductor for the Oakland Youth Chorus, lecturer at University of San Francisco on music standards in education K through 8 and choral director at the Oakland School for the Arts.

Michelle, toured the United States, Korea and Europe performing with and alongside artists including: Manhattan Transfer, Wynton Marsalis, Ladysmith Black Mambaza, Pete Seger, Al Greene, The Persuasions and performed in Geneva, Switzerland, Spectaculum Mundi, Voice Mania a cappella festival in Austria, the UN World Conference of Human Rights, the Montreux Jazz Festival, The Gurten Music Festival, and The Berne Jazz Festival.

Michelle’s credits include: recipient of the 2021 InterMusic SF grant and California Humanities Grant for the 2022/2023 production of “The Daughters of the Delta Project”, recipient of the City Of Oakland, Individual Artist grant for 2008, winner of the 1992 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARA) for “Best Folk/Progressive Song”, “Home Africa”, and soundtrack for the Sundance Film Festival Official Selection, 2010 movie “La Mission” with Benjamin Bratt and renowned Grammy Award winning producers Camilo and Greg Landau.
